One of my greatest stress relievers is gardening. I absolutely love it! My motto is: If you can’t eat it you don’t plant it. I leave flowers to my wife and I plant the stuff you can eat.
My garden area is very small so I’m limited to what I can put out. I’m the only in my family that eats anything out of it except my oldest daughter likes the cucumbers. I give away quite a bit of what I plant.
This year I planted radishes, onions, tomatoes, lettuce (Black Seeded Simpson), green, red, & yellow bell peppers, cauliflower, zucchini & cucumbers. I also plant herbs to use in cooking. I planted Italian parsley, rosemary, basil, Italian oregano, and thyme.
Last night was our awards program. Besides Bro. Mowery dropping a plaque and breaking a trophy and me skipping three awards it went without a hitch! I was so proud of our children and young people. I am also very proud of my own daughter, Shaylee, and the wards that she received.
Today, at 2:30, was our commencement service. I was so excited because I was going to be able to see my good friend John Manley today. He was scheduled to be our commencement speaker. Early this morning John called me and let me know that due to a family emergency he would be unable to come and speak for us. I called Bro. Mowery and said, “We have a problem.” I then told him the problem. His response was basically, “What do you mean we have a problem. You’re on Johnson.” With little time to prepare and a lot on my mind I delivered the commencement address along with my other commencement responsibilities.
It’s been an exhausting week-end and I’m ready to collapse. Tomorrow we leave for Kansas to sing at a camp-meeting. I also have to speak three times in a youth service. What was I thinking?! I need at least two days to recoup from this weekend. Anyway, I probably won’t be able to blog for another week. Right now, it’s time for some ice cream and then I’m going to bed!
Forgive me for being excited, but it’s been awhile since I got an A on anything! If you are interested you can read my term paper. tongues-in-the-book-of-acts.doc It was for Acts and my professor was Mark Cravens. The term paper was assigned and it was to be written about tongues in the book of Acts.
You scholars let me know what you think. Feel free to e-mail me some constructive criticism. It’s been a while since I’ve written a term paper. It was supposed to be 6-8 pages long, but I got carried away…
I have two stress relievers:
1. I like to garden.
2. I like to cook.
These 2 things get my mind off of my problems.
I always cook with fresh ingredients and fresh herbs; never with the dried junk!
I thought maybe you would enjoy a picture of Grilled Lamb Chops with a Rosemary/Olive Oil Glaze. It was really good (if I say so myself). I served it with grilled sweet potatoes and a mozzarella tomato salad.
The second dish is Grilled Chicken with Italian Herbs. I served it with grilled vegetables.
The third dish is Chicken Vino Bianco. It’s an Olive Garden recipe & yes I ate it all!
This is, without a doubt, the most stressful week of the year for me. I remember the old days when I was just a learning center monitor. I look back to those days with fondness! I was able to concentrate on youth ministry and other pastoral duties, but the last two years I have been principal at our school.
It looks like I will be doing it again next year. Oh joy! I love working with kids, but education is not my calling. I’m a team player however, and I’ll keep going on as long as I have to.
Anyway, this is a very stressful week. We have Commencement on Sunday and our Awards Ceremony on Saturday. I have to make sure everything gets done at the school and I also have to organize all the trophies. To you it may sound easy, and there was a day when I thought it was, but not anymore. Say a prayer for me this week. We also leave on Monday as song evangelist for the Church of God (Holiness) general camp.
I don’t need a summer break I need a summer/fall/winter/spring break!
I’m not really sure whether I should be excited or really scared. A couple of weeks ago, on a Monday night, I was already asleep, when at 11:00 p.m., I received a phone call. On the other end was John Manley who informed me that I had just been elected to the Youth Challenge executive board. He asked me if I would be willing to serve. In a groggy state I agreed. When I woke up the next morning I wondered what I had just got myself in to.
Needless to say, I am very excited about this opportunity. I am not accepting this position because I’m looking to “move up the ladder.” That’s not me. It used to be before God dealt with the pride in my life. I’m not doing it because I’m not busy enough. I’m doing it because I believe in Youth Challenge; I believe in young people. YC has made an indelible impression on my young people and on me. I told John Manley, the president of YC, that I would clean toilets to keep YC going. Knowing my spiritual gifts, that’s probably what I’ll be doing. I can’t wait!

I’ve added a few pictures (now that I finally figured it out) to some older posts in case you’re interested.
